SPC-54 is a rat monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and inhibits mouse activated protein C (APC). It binds to the active site of APC, thereby neutralizing its enzymatic activities, which include both its anticoagulant functions (cleavage of Factors Va and VIIIa) and its cytoprotective signaling via Protease-Activated Receptor-1 (PAR-1). SPC-54 is primarily utilized as a research tool in preclinical mouse models to investigate the physiological and pathological roles of the protein C pathway in conditions such as sickle cell disease (SCD), sepsis, and thrombo-inflammation. The antibody was developed and characterized by researchers at The Scripps Research Institute.
