Overview

SPCD-4-79 is an orally bioavailable, low molecular weight small molecule developed by Supercede Therapeutics as a potential treatment for obesity. Its mechanism of action is inhibition of both isoforms of the Activin receptor type II (ACTRIIA and ACTRIIB). Preclinical studies in diet-induced obesity (DIO) mice have shown SPCD-4-79 leads to significant reductions in fat mass, liver mass, liver fat, and overall body weight, both as a single agent and in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide. The compound is currently at the preclinical development stage and has not yet entered clinical trials[2][10].
