SPEEDA is a lyophilized, purified Vero cell-derived human rabies vaccine developed by Liaoning Chengda Biotechnology. The vaccine contains inactivated rabies virus of the Pasteur strain PV2061 (also known as L. Pasteur 2061), which is propagated in Vero cells using microcarrier bioreactor technology and inactivated with β-propiolactone. It is indicated for both pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies in humans. Administered intramuscularly, the vaccine is available in 0.5 ml doses with a minimum potency of 4.5 IU per dose. It can be administered following either the Essen (5-dose) or Zagreb (4-dose) regimens. Clinical evaluations have demonstrated its safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults as well as special populations, including the elderly, patients with chronic diseases, and non-HIV-related immunocompromised individuals.
