SpermAct

SpermAct is a small-molecule sperm cell activator being developed by Spermatech AS to improve fertility in livestock, particularly pigs. The compound functions as an ATP activator that increases sperm cell ATP production, thereby boosting sperm motility and fertility in boar semen used for artificial insemination. SpermAct is designed to be added to boar semen doses prior to the artificial insemination of sows, with the goal of increasing the number of offspring per sow. Preclinical field trials conducted in collaboration with partners such as Norsvin AS have demonstrated the ability to increase offspring production by approximately 14 piglets over a sow's lifetime service. The company is currently working on formulation optimization to improve the activator's solubility in aqueous solutions for practical field application.
