Overview

Sperol is a botanical drug product developed by Aphios Corporation, derived from an enhanced extract of saw palmetto (*Serenoa repens*). It is designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness by inhibiting the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. This inhibition prevents the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a primary driver of prostate enlargement and androgenic alopecia. Sperol utilizes Aphios's patented extraction technology to ensure standardization and potency. While primarily being developed as a pharmaceutical candidate (currently in preclinical stages for BPH), it is also marketed as a dietary supplement (Sperol DS) for promoting healthy prostate function in aging men.
