SPESN38-8 is an investigational antineoplastic agent developed by Sunstate Biosciences, consisting of the topoisomerase I inhibitor SN-38 encapsulated within human serum albumin (HSA) using the company's proprietary Single Protein Encapsulation (SPE) technology. This formulation is designed to enhance the delivery of SN-38, the active metabolite of irinotecan, to tumor cells by exploiting hFcRn-mediated transport mechanisms. The SPE platform aims to improve the solubility and stability of hydrophobic small molecules while potentially reducing systemic toxicities associated with conventional chemotherapy. SPESN38-8 is specifically targeted toward cancers with low hFcRn expression to optimize tumor accumulation and is currently in IND-enabling studies.
