Overview

SpFN_1B-06-PL + ALFQ is a recombinant protein-based vaccine candidate for the prevention of COVID-19. It consists of a self-assembling spike ferritin nanoparticle (SpFN), which displays the prefusion-stabilized SARS-CoV‑2 spike protein on a ferritin core, co-formulated with Army Liposomal Formulation QS21 (ALFQ) as an adjuvant. The vaccine is designed to elicit robust neutralizing antibody responses and broad protection against SARS-CoV‑2 and related coronaviruses by presenting multiple copies of the spike antigen in a highly immunogenic nanoparticle format. The addition of the liposomal adjuvant ALFQ enhances immune response magnitude and durability[3][4][5]. Developed primarily by military research institutions, it has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults[2][5].
