SPH1007-A is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor being developed by Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd for the treatment of polyp-related diseases. It is a specific clinical candidate or formulation of celecoxib. COX-2 is an enzyme involved in the production of prostaglandins that promote inflammation and cell growth; its overexpression is frequently observed in colorectal adenomas and is associated with the development and progression of polyps. By inhibiting COX-2, SPH1007-A aims to reduce the formation and growth of adenomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials for general polyp-related conditions, while the related SPH1007 program is in Phase 3 for familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
