SpheChon is an autologous cell therapy product developed by ReLive Biotechnologies for the repair of symptomatic articular cartilage defects in the knee. The therapy consists of patient-derived chondrocytes that are cultured and formed into three-dimensional spheroid structures. These spheroids are implanted into the defect site (specifically ICRS grade III or IV defects of the femoral condyle or patella) to promote the regeneration of hyaline-like cartilage tissue. In December 2023, SpheChon received New Drug Application (NDA) approval from Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA), making it the first approved cell therapy for cartilage repair in Singapore. It is indicated for use in adults and adolescents with closed epiphyseal growth plates for defect sizes ranging from 1 cm² to 10 cm².
