Overview

SPIEC is an enteric-coated micropellet capsule formulation of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) developed by Jilin Tianheng Pharmaceutical. It is designed to provide controlled release of aspirin in the small intestine, thereby reducing gastric mucosal irritation commonly associated with standard aspirin tablets. The micropellet technology aims to improve the bioavailability and safety profile of aspirin for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, such as unstable angina pectoris. By utilizing enteric-coated micropellets within a capsule, the formulation ensures a more uniform distribution in the gastrointestinal tract and potentially more stable plasma concentrations. Aspirin acts as an irreversible inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzymes, primarily COX-1 in platelets, which prevents the synthesis of thromboxane A2 and results in a potent antithrombotic effect.
