Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Spike-GM-CSF is an investigational vaccine candidate designed for the prevention of COVID-19. It consists of a recombinant protein that fuses the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), delivered via intradermal injection in a lactated Ringer's solution. The GM-CSF component acts as an immunological adjuvant, enhancing both cellular and humoral immune responses to the spike antigen by stimulating dendritic cell recruitment and maturation, thereby promoting antigen presentation and robust immune activation against SARS-CoV-2[1][5]. This approach leverages GM-CSF’s established role as an innate immune system stimulant and its ability to activate myeloid cells through pathways such as JAK2/STAT5[4][6]. The product is currently under clinical investigation for use in COVID-19.
