Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Spikevax KP.2 is a monovalent, Omicron KP.2–adapted COVID-19 mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna as an updated formulation of Spikevax to provide active immunization against SARS-CoV-2, with antigenic sequence matched to the circulating Omicron KP.2 lineage. It consists of nucleoside-modified messenger RNA encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein of the KP.2 subvariant, formulated in lipid nanoparticles to enable cellular uptake and transient expression of spike antigen. The expressed spike protein elicits both neutralizing antibodies and cellular immune responses, boosting protection against symptomatic COVID-19, hospitalization, and severe disease in previously vaccinated or infected individuals during the 2024–2025 respiratory virus season.[5][13][14]
