Drug intelligence / Profile preview
mRNA-1273.815 is a monovalent messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine developed by ModernaTX, Inc., specifically designed to target the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron XBB.1.5 sublineage. It consists of a synthetic mRNA sequence encoding the viral spike protein, encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for delivery. Upon intramuscular administration, the LNPs facilitate the entry of mRNA into host cells, which then translate the genetic information to produce the spike protein, eliciting a robust immune response including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation. This vaccine was approved by the FDA in September 2023 as part of the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine formulation series for individuals aged 6 months and older.
