SPIRO-2102 is an investigational inhaled gene therapy for cystic fibrosis that uses a proprietary lentiviral vector engineered to be tropic for and efficiently transduce airway epithelial cells in order to deliver a functional cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene to the lungs.[1][9] Developed by Spirovant Sciences within the Sumitovant/Sumitomo Pharma group, the program was designed primarily for patients with CFTR mutations who are unlikely to benefit from small‑molecule CFTR modulators, aiming to restore CFTR function through durable gene transfer following aerosol administration.[1][6][9] Preclinical animal models showed phenotypic restoration of CFTR activity in the airways, but the global development status of SPIRO-2102 has since been reported as discontinued.[6][11]
