Spirolept is a **subcutaneously injected whole-cell, inactivated bacterial vaccine** used to prevent human leptospirosis, particularly in at-risk populations. The formulation consists of inactivated cells of *Leptospira interrogans* serogroup Icterohaemorrhagiae, which is the prevalent serogroup in France, and induces immune protection primarily via humoral response. Vaccination schedule typically involves two 1 mL doses, administered subcutaneously 15 days apart, followed by a third dose 4–6 months later, and subsequent biannual revaccinations. Immunogenicity is primarily serovar-specific with protection rates reportedly between 60% and 100%; however, seroconversion rates are lower compared to natural infection. The mechanism of action is immune stimulation via bacterial antigens and lipopolysaccharides[2][3][4].
