Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of three small molecule drugs—spironolactone, captopril, and carvedilol. Spironolactone is a mineralocorticoid (aldosterone) receptor antagonist with diuretic and antiandrogenic properties; captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that reduces the formation of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure; carvedilol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker with additional alpha-1 blocking activity, reducing heart rate and vascular resistance. This combination has been studied for its potential to improve endothelial function in patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer[1][2]. Each component targets different pathways involved in cardiovascular regulation, making the combination potentially beneficial for managing hypertension, heart failure, or protecting cardiac function during chemotherapy.
