Overview

**Spironolactone + hydrochlorothiazide** is an oral fixed-dose combination of two small-molecule diuretics used for hypertension and edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome. Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that reduces aldosterone-driven sodium reabsorption while limiting potassium loss; hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal renal tubule. Together, the agents provide additive natriuretic, diuretic, and antihypertensive activity while the spironolactone component counterbalances thiazide-associated potassium depletion. The originator product is marketed as Aldactazide. ([accessdata.fda.gov](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2025/012616s085lbl.pdf))
