Overview

SPK002 is a long-acting monoclonal antibody (mAb) developed by the French biotechnology company Spikimm for the prevention of COVID-19, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Discovered at the Institut Pasteur, it is designed to neutralize SARS-CoV-2 by binding to a highly conserved epitope on the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the viral spike protein. This targeting strategy aims to maintain potency against a broad range of viral variants, including Omicron sub-lineages. SPK002 is engineered with a modified Fc region to extend its half-life, potentially providing several months of protection following a single administration. It is intended for use as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in individuals who do not mount an adequate immune response to standard vaccinations.
