Overview

Spleen polypeptide is an immunomodulatory biologic preparation extracted from healthy animal spleens, typically porcine or bovine. It consists of a complex mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides, amino acids, and nucleotides. The drug is primarily utilized in China as a supportive treatment for patients with advanced malignant tumors, including lung, breast, and colorectal cancers, to alleviate cancer-related fatigue and stabilize immune status during chemotherapy. It is also indicated for the prevention and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and as an adjunct therapy for viral infections such as cytomegalovirus hepatitis. Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of cellular immune responses, specifically by promoting the maturation and activity of T-lymphocytes and modulating the release of cytokines like interleukin-2 and interferon-gamma.
