Spondias purpurea leaf methanolic extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Spondias purpurea* L., a plant endemic to regions including Nigeria and Central America. Preclinical research has identified the extract as a potential therapeutic candidate for neurodegenerative conditions due to its significant iron-chelating, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. In experimental models, the extract has demonstrated the ability to protect neuronal cells against 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) toxicity and improve survival in *PINK-1* mutant *Drosophila* models of Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, it has been shown to mitigate vanadium-induced neurotoxicity by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and extending lifespan in affected models. Its primary mechanism of action involves the modulation of iron homeostasis, which is frequently dysregulated in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
