Overview
Sporal A is a probiotic medicinal product containing live spores of *Bacillus subtilis* (typically strain 534), developed and manufactured by the Polish company Biomed-Lublin. It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of intestinal dysbiosis, particularly those arising from antibiotic therapy or gastrointestinal infections. Upon oral administration, the spores survive the acidic environment of the stomach and germinate into vegetative cells within the small and large intestines. These vegetative cells work to restore the physiological balance of the gut microbiota by competing with pathogenic microorganisms for nutrients and adhesion sites, and by producing metabolites that inhibit the growth of pathogens. Although often categorized as a probiotic, Sporal A is registered as a pharmaceutical drug (medicine) in Poland, distinguishing it from common dietary supplements.
