Sporamin is the primary storage protein found in the tuberous roots of the sweet potato (*Ipomoea batatas*). It is a Kunitz-type trypsin inhibitor that has demonstrated significant antineoplastic properties, particularly in the context of colorectal cancer. The protein acts by inhibiting protease activity and modulating key oncogenic signaling pathways, such as the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, which leads to the induction of apoptosis and the suppression of tumor cell proliferation and metastasis. Clinical research, notably conducted by the 153th People's Liberation Army Hospital in China, has investigated sporamin as an adjuvant therapeutic agent in combination with standard chemotherapy (e.g., fluorouracil) for patients with stage II colorectal cancer following surgical resection.
