SporeVax-C. difficile is a preclinical-stage mucosal vaccine candidate developed by SporeGen for the prevention of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). The vaccine utilizes a proprietary platform where inactivated Bacillus subtilis spores serve as both a delivery vehicle and a natural adjuvant. These spores are engineered to display specific peptide repeats from the C-terminal cell-binding domains of C. difficile toxins A (A26-39 domain) and B (B15-24 domain) on their surface. By targeting these domains, the vaccine aims to induce antibodies that prevent the toxins from binding to and damaging intestinal epithelial cells. As a mucosal vaccine, it is designed for needle-free administration via oral, sublingual, or nasal routes to induce local immunity at the primary site of infection. The candidate is notably heat-stable, requiring no cold chain for storage or transport.
