Overview

SPP1148 is an investigational small molecule drug developed as a direct renin inhibitor for the treatment of hypertension and related end-organ diseases. It was identified as the most promising compound from Speedel's SPP1100 series of renin inhibitors. The drug acts by inhibiting renin, an enzyme involved in the regulation of blood pressure via the renin-angiotensin system. SPP1148 entered Phase I clinical trials to assess its safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers, with initial results expected in late 2007[1][2].
