Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Spritz-OM is a novel live biotherapeutic product developed as a probiotic nasal spray to prevent childhood middle ear infections (otitis media). Developed by Oto Medicines, a spin-out from The Kids Research Institute Australia, the therapy consists of healthy bacteria designed to be delivered intranasally. Its mechanism of action involves the competitive inhibition of major bacterial pathogens responsible for over 50% of ear infections, effectively outcompeting them to prevent the onset of infection. The product aims to reduce the global reliance on antibiotics and surgical interventions for recurrent or chronic otitis media. As of 2025, the program is entering Phase 1 clinical trials.
