Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SPVX02 is a uniquely formulated, fridge-free adult booster vaccine developed for the prevention of tetanus and diphtheria (Td) infections. It is designed to maintain efficacy even under significant temperature fluctuations, eliminating the need for cold chain storage and distribution. This innovation aims to reduce vaccine wastage and improve global access to Td vaccines, especially in regions with limited refrigeration infrastructure. The vaccine has demonstrated robust stability in studies exposing it to temperatures from -20°C to +40°C, with an anticipated commercial shelf life of at least four years at room temperature. SPVX02 entered its first-in-human clinical trial in early 2025 at the National Institute for Health and Care Research Southampton Clinical Research Facility. The product was manufactured by Thermo Fisher Scientific for clinical trials[1][3][4].
