Overview

SPYVLP01 is an investigational prophylactic vaccine candidate developed by SpyBiotech for the prevention of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection. It utilizes a Hepatitis B virus-like particle (VLP) platform, leveraging SpyBiotech’s proprietary protein ‘superglue’ technology (SpyTag/SpyCatcher), which enables stable and efficient antigen display on the VLP surface to enhance immunogenicity. The vaccine is designed to stimulate an immune response against HCMV, a common betaherpesvirus that can cause lifelong infection and is a leading infectious cause of congenital abnormalities in newborns. There are currently no approved vaccines for HCMV. As of July 2024, SPYVLP01 has completed enrollment in a Phase I clinical trial evaluating its safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults aged 18–50 years[3][5][6][8].
