Overview

SQ-129 is a sustained-release intravitreal injection containing the corticosteroid dexamethasone, developed by Shenyang Xingqi Eye Pharmaceutical. It is designed for the treatment of macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO), including both branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). As a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, the drug works by suppressing ocular inflammation, reducing vascular permeability, and inhibiting the expression of inflammatory mediators and VEGF. The sustained-release formulation allows for prolonged therapeutic concentrations within the vitreous cavity, aiming to reduce the frequency of injections compared to standard therapies. SQ-129 is currently in Phase 3 clinical development in China, where it is being evaluated for its efficacy and safety in comparison to established dexamethasone implants.
