SQ-23101 is a monoclonal antibody targeting the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R), currently under development by Shenyang Xingqi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of thyroid eye disease (TED). IGF-1R is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor that is overexpressed on orbital fibroblasts in patients with TED, where it forms a functional signaling complex with the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR). Activation of this complex drives the inflammation, muscle swelling, and orbital fat expansion characteristic of the disease. By acting as an antagonist to IGF-1R, SQ-23101 aims to block these pathological processes. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection and is undergoing Phase I clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in adults with active, moderate-to-severe thyroid eye disease.
