Overview

SQZ-TAC is an **engineered red blood cell derived cell therapy platform** from SQZ Biotechnologies designed to induce **antigen-specific immune tolerance** in autoimmune disease. The therapy uses the Cell Squeeze platform to engineer red blood cells with disease-relevant antigens; after physiologic clearance of these cells by professional antigen-presenting cells, the antigens are presented in a tolerogenic context intended to suppress pathogenic autoreactive immune responses. Reported mechanisms include deletion of autoreactive T cells, induction of anergy, and expansion of regulatory T cells with potential bystander suppression. The lead application disclosed for the platform was celiac disease, with additional preclinical work described in type 1 diabetes.
