Developed by Seraxis, Inc., it is primarily being investigated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and metabolic diseases. Beyond endocrinology, SR-3 has demonstrated neuroprotective properties in animal models, showing efficacy comparable to carbamazepine in controlling pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced seizures and preventing stress-induced elevations in cortisol and cholesterol. Its mechanism involves modulating the physiological consequences of intense stress, potentially protecting hippocampal structures from corticosteroid-mediated damage, which suggests potential applications in cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease.
