SR-T100 is a topical pharmaceutical gel developed for the treatment of actinic keratosis and other skin lesions. Its active component is solamargine, a steroidal glycoalkaloid extracted from Solanum undatum (also referred to as Solanum incanum in some studies). The drug acts primarily by inducing apoptosis and causing G0/G1 cell cycle arrest in abnormal or malignant skin cells. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy against actinic keratosis, Bowen's disease (cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in situ), common warts (verruca vulgaris), genital warts, and even melanoma cells. Mechanistically, solamargine down-regulates HER2/neu receptors and aldehyde dehydrogenase 1—markers associated with cancer stem-like cells—and promotes DNA damage leading to cancer cell death. SR-T100 has shown favorable safety profiles compared to other topical agents such as 5-fluorouracil, imiquimod, diclofenac, and ingenol mebutate[1][2][3][6][7].
