SR11302 is a selective small molecule inhibitor of the Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor complex. AP-1 is a dimeric protein typically composed of members of the Fos and Jun families (e.g., c-Fos, c-Jun) that regulates the expression of genes involved in cellular proliferation, differentiation, inflammation, and apoptosis. SR11302 acts by blocking the DNA-binding activity of the AP-1 complex without affecting the binding of other transcription factors like NF-κB. It is widely used as a research tool to investigate the role of AP-1 signaling in various pathological conditions, including cancer metastasis, inflammatory diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis and colitis), neuroinflammation, and cardiovascular disorders. In preclinical studies, it has demonstrated the ability to suppress matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression, reduce oncogenic transcription in lung cancer, and mitigate stress-induced hair growth arrest.
