Overview

SR419 is an orally administered, non-opioid analgesic developed by SIMR Biotech (Shanghai SIMR Biotechnology) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain. It is a novel small molecule with a unique mechanism of action as an ion channel modulator. Preclinical studies indicate that SR419 has strong analgesic effects with fewer side effects compared to existing treatments like pregabalin. The drug aims to address chronic pain caused by nerve damage from conditions such as postherpetic neuralgia, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, and postoperative nerve injury. As of late 2024, SR419 has completed phase I trials in Australia and China and phase II trials for postherpetic neuralgia[1][2][3][5][7].
