Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SRD-002 is a small molecule activator of the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase 2a (SERCA2a) being developed by Sardocor for the treatment of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF). SERCA2a is a calcium pump that plays a vital role in cardiomyocyte relaxation by sequestering calcium into the sarcoplasmic reticulum during diastole. Impaired SERCA2a activity is a hallmark of heart failure, leading to poor calcium handling and diastolic dysfunction. By enhancing SERCA2a function, SRD-002 aims to improve cardiac relaxation and overall heart function in patients with HFpEF. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
