SRD-065 is an investigational gene therapy being developed by Sardocor for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. The therapy utilizes an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector to deliver a functional copy of the gene encoding the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase 2a (SERCA2a) protein to the lungs. SERCA2a is a critical regulator of intracellular calcium homeostasis, and its downregulation is a hallmark of fibrotic remodeling in both cardiac and pulmonary tissues. By restoring SERCA2a expression, SRD-065 aims to normalize calcium signaling, thereby inhibiting the activation of pro-fibrotic myofibroblasts and reducing the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix components. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development and is typically administered via inhalation or nebulization to target pulmonary cells directly.
