Overview

SRD-266 is an investigational gene therapy developed by Sardocor for the treatment of Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF). The therapy is designed to deliver the gene encoding the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase 2 (SERCA2a) enzyme directly to cardiomyocytes. SERCA2a is a critical regulator of calcium cycling in the heart, responsible for transporting calcium ions from the cytoplasm into the sarcoplasmic reticulum to facilitate cardiac relaxation. In patients with heart failure, SERCA2a expression and activity are often significantly reduced, leading to impaired calcium handling and decreased contractile function. By restoring or augmenting SERCA2a levels, SRD-266 aims to improve myocardial calcium homeostasis and enhance the heart's pumping capacity. The program is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
