Overview

SRPE-3-Cr(III) is an experimental chromium(III) coordination complex of SRPE-3, an enzymatic product of sulfated rhamnose polysaccharide derived from the green alga *Enteromorpha prolifera*. In a high-fat, high-sucrose diet-induced mouse model of type 2 diabetes mellitus, it reduced blood glucose, adiposity, triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol. The reported preclinical findings also included lower leptin, resistin, tumor necrosis factor alpha, hepatic fatty acid synthase, and acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity, alongside increased adiponectin. It is an early academic research compound rather than an approved or clinically established medicine. ([pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10077238/))
