Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**SS-1** is an investigational oral traditional Chinese herbal medicine formula developed for Sjögren's syndrome. It is a powdered 2:1:1 mixture of Gan-Lu-Yin, Sang-Ju-Yin, and Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu decoction. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial conducted as add-on therapy to stable hydroxychloroquine, SS-1 improved Schirmer tear-test results and reduced artificial-tear use in patients with Sjögren's syndrome. Its pharmacology is not attributable to one defined molecular target; phenotypic profiling and clinical biomarker findings support broad anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, B-cell-modulating, and anti-fibrotic activity, including attenuation of BAFF and BCMA increases. SS-1 is not an approved medicine.
