Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ss-IR (Strongyloides stercoralis immunoreactive antigen) recombinant antigen is an experimental recombinant protein subunit vaccine antigen derived from the parasitic nematode *Strongyloides stercoralis*. Produced in *Escherichia coli*, Ss-IR has been investigated as a prophylactic vaccine candidate against human strongyloidiasis. In preclinical mouse models, immunization with Ss-IR in combination with an alum adjuvant induces a robust antibody-dependent immune response, significantly reducing larval survival upon challenge. Additionally, Ss-IR is utilized as a highly sensitive and specific serodiagnostic antigen in multiplex bead assays and ELISA platforms (such as the Strongy Detect ELISA developed by InBios) to detect *S. stercoralis* infections and prevent life-threatening hyperinfection syndrome in immunocompromised individuals.
