SSR411298 is an orally active, selective, and reversible inhibitor of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), the primary enzyme responsible for degrading endocannabinoids such as anandamide (AEA), oleoylethanolamide (OEA), and palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)[1][2][3]. By inhibiting FAAH, SSR411298 increases levels of these endogenous cannabinoids in the brain. Preclinical studies show that SSR411298 does not produce the behavioral side effects associated with direct-acting cannabinoids but demonstrates anxiolytic-like effects under highly aversive conditions and robust antidepressant-like activity in animal models. Its pharmacological profile suggests potential use in treating stress-related disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder[1]. The compound has also been investigated for major depressive disorder[5].
