Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SSS50 is a 5% foam formulation of minoxidil developed by 3SBio (Shenyang Sunshine Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. As a potassium channel opener, minoxidil acts by hyperpolarizing cell membranes and relaxing vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and improved blood flow to hair follicles. It also stimulates the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and prolongs the anagen phase of the hair cycle while shortening the telogen phase. The foam formulation was specifically developed to eliminate propylene glycol, a common component in liquid minoxidil tinctures that often causes scalp irritation and allergic contact dermatitis, thereby improving patient adherence and comfort. SSS50 received marketing approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in January 2022.
