Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SST-6006 is a first-in-class topical cream formulation of sildenafil citrate (5% by weight) developed by Strategic Science & Technologies, LLC for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The drug utilizes the proprietary KNOSIS delivery technology, which facilitates the permeation of the active ingredient through the skin into the penile tissue. As a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor, sildenafil enhances nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation in the corpus cavernosum by preventing the degradation of cGMP. SST-6006 is designed to provide therapeutic efficacy with significantly reduced systemic absorption compared to oral sildenafil, thereby minimizing common PDE-5 inhibitor side effects like headaches and flushing. It has completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials and is being positioned as a potential over-the-counter (OTC) treatment option.
