Overview

SSTK-101 is an investigational nasal and oral spray formulation containing 0.03% **azelastine hydrochloride**, developed by SKYDD Biotechnology for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. Azelastine is a second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist traditionally used for allergic rhinitis. In the context of SARS-CoV-2, azelastine has demonstrated potent antiviral activity in vitro by inhibiting viral entry and replication, potentially through the disruption of sigma-1 receptor interactions or interference with the ACE2-spike protein binding. SKYDD Biotechnology, an Australian-based firm with research capabilities from Sweden and China, has evaluated the candidate in a Phase I clinical trial (ACTRN12621001445808) to assess safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers. The drug is positioned as a prophylactic or early-stage therapeutic for SARS-CoV-2 infection.
