Overview

A recombinant adenoviral vector encoding the **human somatostatin receptor type 2 (SSTR2)** gene, sometimes as a fusion protein (e.g., SSTR2-yCD), used primarily in preclinical and translational research for gene transfer, molecular imaging, and as a model for gene therapy. The **SSTR2 adenovirus** delivers the SSTR2 gene to target cells (often tumor cells), conferring expression of SSTR2 receptor on their surface. This enables functional imaging using radiolabeled somatostatin analogues, monitoring gene transfer efficiency, and, in suicide gene therapy approaches, targeting and killing transduced cells (e.g., via prodrug conversion). Its mechanism is gene transfer via adenoviral infection, not direct pharmacological modulation. Indications explored include cancer gene therapy (e.g., imaging and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors, nasopharyngeal cancer, breast cancer xenografts, and as a suicide gene therapy system). It is not FDA-approved for any clinical use; it is an experimental gene therapy tool used in research[2][4][6][8].
