SSTR2 agonist is a preclinical-stage small-molecule agonist developed by Exelixis that targets the somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2). Somatostatin receptors are a group of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that, upon activation by natural somatostatin or synthetic agonists, typically exert inhibitory effects on hormone secretion and cellular proliferation. SSTR2 is notably overexpressed in various cancers, particularly neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), making it a significant target for both diagnostic imaging and therapeutic intervention.
