Overview

ST-alphaDC1 is a cell-based treatment utilizing autologous alpha-type-1 polarized dendritic cells. These cells are engineered by treating dendritic cells (DCs) with interferon-alpha (IFN-a) and polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (p-I:C) in addition to a cytokine cocktail (tumor necrosis factor alpha/Interleukin-1beta/IFN-gamma). This process produces mature, potent immunostimulating alphaDC1 cells that exhibit high responsiveness to lymphoid chemokines and produce high levels of interleukin-12p70 (IL-12p70). When pulsed with specific tumor-associated antigens (TAAs), ST-alphaDC1 is capable of inducing a potent cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response against these TAAs, making it suitable for use as a cancer vaccine. It is being investigated for the treatment of melanoma.
