Overview

ST3595 is a synthetic atypical retinoid and a derivative of the compound ST1926, characterized by a hydroxamic acid functional group. It is designed as a proapoptotic agent with potent antiproliferative activity, particularly studied in ovarian carcinoma models such as the IGROV-1 cell line. ST3595 exerts its anti-tumor effects through several mechanisms, including the induction of oxidative stress, deregulation of calcium homeostasis, and significant down-regulation of factors involved in the proteasome-mediated protein degradation pathway. Unlike classical retinoids, ST3595 and related atypical retinoids often induce apoptosis in a manner that may be independent of nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs). Research has also identified specific protein modulations by ST3595, including the pre-mRNA splicing factor SF2p32 and clathrin light chain.
