Overview

Stabilized Brain-Spect (Tc-MR-15) is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent developed by Medi-Radiopharma. It is a stabilized "cold kit" formulation of exametazime (hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime or HM-PAO) intended for labeling with technetium-99m (99mTc). Once labeled, the lipophilic 99mTc-exametazime complex crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into a hydrophilic form that is trapped in brain cells in proportion to regional cerebral blood flow. This stabilized version is designed to provide a longer shelf-life and better handling characteristics than conventional exametazime kits. It is primarily used for brain perfusion Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging to evaluate regional cerebral blood flow and for the diagnostic radiolabeling of leukocytes (white blood cells) to localize infection or inflammation.
