Overview

Stable dust extract is an investigational biologic agent derived from the environmental dust of traditional cattle stables, developed to harness the "farm effect"—the observation that children raised in farming environments have a lower prevalence of asthma and allergies. The extract is a complex mixture of microbial components, including bacterial endotoxins (LPS) and other pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the innate immune system through the activation of pattern recognition receptors, such as Toll-like receptors (TLR2 and TLR4), on airway epithelial cells and dendritic cells. This stimulation is thought to promote a Th1-biased immune environment and regulatory T-cell activity, thereby preventing the Th2-driven allergic sensitization and chronic airway inflammation associated with asthma. It is primarily being investigated as a preventive intranasal treatment for infants and children at high risk for atopic diseases.
